Why Are You Painting?

A survey exhibition, comprised of work and words coming from twenty-one painters hailing from three states: Hawaiʻi, California, and New York. An accompanying limited-edition catalogue for produced by the Ki Smith Gallery.

Theme:

Each painter was sent a survey that asked six questions designed to uncover the reason why they paint. Those surveys, combined with personal observations made during studio visits by the curators, were used to construct statements that now accompany each artist’s work. By working closely with the painters, the Painters Club strove to uncover and communicate authentic, personal, and inspirational answers to the big question: WHY ARE YOU PAINTING?
